Discovery Pharmaceutical Sciences (DPS) is a multidisciplinary research group that enables drug discovery and drug product development through application of pharmaceutical science to drug delivery research from target identification through clinical candidate selection for both small and large molecules as well as vaccines. DPS influences molecular design of these clinical candidates through physicochemical property profiling and application of insights to better understand and resolve drug product developability risks. Our deliverables include identification of oral and parenteral preclinical formulations for pharmacology and toxicology studies across modalities (small molecules, peptides, biologics, and vaccines). We closely collaborate with other key functions required for selection and progression of clinical candidates, including Biology, Medicinal Chemistry, Drug Safety, Process Research, Vaccine Development, Analytical Research, Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics. In aggregate, our team enables the transition of optimized molecules from discovery to clinical formulation development with clinical formulation strategies in place.
Primary Responsibilities
DPS in West Point, PA is seeking an enthusiastic Scientist with strong academic fundamentals and a drive to develop new medicines to join our department for a lab-based role. In this role, the individual will be responsible for supporting formulation development and characterization of new vaccines and adjuvants, as well as potential improvements to the manufacturing process. The successful candidate is expected to function in a multidisciplinary collaborative environment.
Additional responsibilities are as follows:
- Execute routine experiments, data interpretation with scientific guidance and communicate results of their work in both verbal and written formats.
- Proactively identifies and troubleshoots potential issues with procedures, data, or instrumentation.
- Understands overall project timelines to manage prioritization of individual contributor deliverables with appropriate supervision.
- Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks, comply with all required training, and maintain focused attention on laboratory safety for themselves and the team.
- Builds awareness of relevant new and current technologies to grow as a pharmaceutical scientist.
Education
- B.S. degree or M.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering or related discipline or relevant industry experience.
Required Experience and Skills
- Ability to learn and apply new scientific principles to execute daily responsibilities.
- Prior experience in a laboratory environment.
- Passion to learn and develop as a pharmaceutical scientist.
- Demonstrated ability to collate and conduct basic data analysis.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational, logistical, and technical problem solving abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced collaborative team environment.
- Learning and growth mindset; willingness to master new analytical techniques and formulation processes.
Preferred Experience and Skills
- Experience in pre-clinical/clinical formulation and process development, and characterization of vaccines and adjuvants.
