Responsibilities
- Ensures the quality of care in the use of radiation-producing sources and equipment is responsible for the provision of safety for patients and staff from radiation.
- Provides technical assistance in the development of treatment plans for patients undergoing radiation therapy; monitoring patients; maintain established policies, procedures, objectives, quality measurement and safety.
- Performs radiation control work related to the investigation, surveillance, inspection and registration of radiation and x-ray producing machines.
- Assumes the role of assistant of Radiation Safety Officer for Radiation Therapy and/or Diagnostic Departments.
Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
1. MS or PhD in Medical Physics or related discipline.
2. BLS (AHA) certification within 30 days of hire
3. Knowledge of: basic theory and practice of physics; medical terminology relating to health/medical physics; common uses of radiation including hazards and preventative measures; radiation equipment.
4. Knowledge of federal laws and regulations relating to use of radioactive materials, radiation and x-ray producing machine.
5. Experience with Cyberknife/SRS preferred
6. Required solid experience with Varian TrueBeam, HDR Varisource, Aria and Eclipse.
7. Required certification in radiologic medical physics by the American Board of Radiology - ABR
