Job Description
The Special Projects Department is a leader in property management and sustainability, committed to maintaining high-performance building systems and ensuring environmental compliance. We are seeking a Chemical Engineer with expertise in water treatment and property finishes to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will leverage their chemical engineering knowledge to ensure efficient water systems, optimize building surfaces, and contribute to the longevity and sustainability of our property portfolio. worldwide.
- This role is critical providing consultation and supporting the water treatment processes and enhancing the durability and performance of building finishes across multiple properties. This position is responsible for ensuring water systems meet regulatory standards and implementing innovative surface treatment technologies and operational efficiency.
- This role supports the Mission of the Church to bring members closer to the Lord through building and maintaining temples in a simple and optimal way across the world.
Responsibilities
Water Treatment Systems
- Program Standards: Advance standards that optimize water treatment systems, including filtration, disinfection, desalination, and wastewater treatment, ensuring the delivery of quality water to building systems
- Sewage & Wastewater Management: Evaluate the treatment and safe discharge of wastewater, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations
- Cooling Towers & HVAC Systems: Advance water treatment standards for cooling towers and HVAC systems, preventing scale, corrosion, and biological growth to optimize operation.
- Chemical Treatment & Corrosion Control: Implement and advance chemical treatment plans to prevent corrosion and scaling in baptistry fonts, pipes, boilers, and other water systems, ensuring long-term operational efficiency.
- Legionella Control: Develop disinfection and risk management strategies for controlling Legionella and other pathogens in water systems, ensuring health and safety standards are met.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
- Health & Safety Standards: Support the advancement of safety protocols for handling water treatment chemicals and surface materials, ensuring proper storage, use, and disposal.
Project Support & Consultation
- Project Support: Support projects related to water treatment upgrades and surface finishes.
- Vendor Support: Research locally sourced quality water treatment systems ensuring the best value and performance.
- Maintenance & Monitoring: Advance preventative and predictive maintenance protocols for water treatment systems and finishes.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in water treatment, coatings, and surface finishes, particularly in a property management or construction context.
- Strong knowledge of water chemistry, filtration, disinfection methods, wastewater management, and advanced coating technologies.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations, water treatment certifications, and safety standards.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and supporting teams.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, maintenance, and property management teams.
Preferred:
- Must be able to perform innovative and forward thinking global engineering, design projects of medium complexity, project cost estimates, meet aggressive schedules and budgets, troubleshoot, track performance, interpret project contracts and consult accordingly, establish vendor relationships, communicate effectively with leaders, managers, clients and consultants using tools such as: Microsoft Office, Revit/CAD systems, Bluebeam, Autodesk Construction Cloud, document transfer and management systems, online conferencing and cloud based storage servers
